Meeting Format
The format of club meetings varies somewhat between Toastmaster clubs. TGIF meetings run like this:
7:00 am Members meet, chat, and ensure everything is read to start on time. This includes taking care of guests. An assigned member will ask a guest a few questions, to then be able to introduce the guest to the club.
7:15 The meeting starts. The meeting is opened by the president, who will call on the assigned member to introduce each guest.
Next, we address club business. This is quite short, usually a couple of announcements, but members are invited to bring proposals also.
7:30 The president introduces the Toastmaster of the day, who will run the meeting. If we have guests, the General Evaluator will have the evaluators (the Timer, the Grammarian, the Ah counter) explain their roles.
7:35 Table Topics (short impromptu speeches)
The Table Topics Master asks members questions related to the theme of the day and each member responds with a 1 to 1 ½ minute impromptu speech. Guests have the option to participate.
8:00 Prepared Speeches
Three members give speeches they have prepared based on guidance provided in the Toastmasters Pathways program. Each speech has a skill to practice and comes with an evaluation form which a speech evaluator will use. Speeches are generally 5-7 minutes in length.
8:20 Evaluations
Assigned evaluators give their evaluations of each of the three prepared speeches, praising the good aspects of a speech and providing guidance to improve it further.
The Grammarian, the Ah Counter and the Wordmaster and the General Evaluator assess the whole meeting.
Members vote for the best Table Topics speaker, prepared Speaker and Evaluator.
8:40 The Toastmaster solicits opinions from guests and members. A quotemaster provides an inspirational quote for us to leave with.
8:45 The meeting adjourns.
